Heading home Saturday

Hey folks,

Thanks again for all of your prayers, kind words, and support of my family. We’re so very thankful for the blessing of such a selfless group of people.

We had a good meeting with our oncologist yesterday. Ultimately, it was decided that we will stay on the current treatment plan since it has been mostly effective in shrinking/keeping in remission micro-cancer and keeping stable the solid tumor(s). We won’t know for sure if there will be another plan for surgery until we meet w/ the surgical oncology team and the HIPEC team on Friday.

We did leave with some bit of new hope. I can’t go into any details because there really are none, but the oncologist recently returned from a conference, and he said that he had heard “rumblings of a new immunotherapy drug” for the population of people with my cancer type (considering the presence/absence of mutations in certain genes) to be presented at a big conference in June. If this is the case, then we’ll be trying like mad to get on the list for a Phase 1 trial, because if these drugs work, they can have tremendous effects on disease. They stimulate the body’s own immune system to destroy cancer cells w/ very little side effects. We can pray that this comes to fruition, because then maybe surgery won’t be necessary at all.

But again, this is only in the “hope” phase.

So unless my healing suddenly takes a turn for the worse, we’ll be home Saturday afternoon.

Peace and love

Brent

Oh Brent, I’m so thrilled to hear about the possible June news! We’ll begin to pray fervently for that possibility! We’re praying, too, for your last couple days there in TX … that God will strengthen and comfort you both, giving you sweet time together, carrying you as only He can. With much love, all the Brannens
